facts about rural education
Thursday, May 18, 2006 Facts about education
A Lot has been said and done regarding the reservations. Concerned i just decided to open the National commision report 2001, which is commisioned by the goverment, its basically about the 10 year developments in our nation.
Ok. so I looked at the prevailing literacy rates .
!> as of 2001 overall literacy rates 65.2%.and for rural 59%.
2>this is directly quoted from the book: "The literacy rates for sc and st population have been much lower than rest of the population".
as of 1991: the rates were 37.4% and 29.6% respectively for sc and st,
now comes the cake: in bihar only 10% of rural females were educated
in rajasthan the ratio stood at 5%!!!!
3>Enrollment ratios: as in index of kids joining school ,
in rural areas ,
age group 6 to 11 :-41.3%.
age grp 11 to 14 :- 46% .
ok humdinger:- in bihar , up, rajasthn the rates were below 40%.
the net enrollment ratio in 95-96 was 57.5 percent for 6 to 14 years of age.
4> Drop out rates:
A> till class 5 stands at 40% in 1999-2000
b> class1 to Class 8 stands at 55%
c>Within age groups 5 to 24 overall, it stands at 21%.Of these guys more than 1/3rd cited the reason of doing so was economical and 20% cited as FACILITIES BEING INSUFFICIENT.( ineffect classrooms teachers, lacking)
D>( this one rocks) In rural areas 75 % of girls droup out!
e>all this is from the PROBE report,(for the nerds)
5>National council for applied economic research, found out that of people who earn <20,000>the enrollment for their kids for 6 to 14 years of age.was 60.6% and for those who earn >62000. it was 84.5%!! (in effect raising socio economic standards raise education capability)
6>Accessibility :to schools in rural areas 1993
primary schools i.e. class 1 to class 5 : 77.81% within habitation(that is ur surrounding livable area)
Post primary school (class 6 to 8) : 37.02 within habitation!!!!!!
7> The % of literates in the age 7 to 14 years was just: 64.16 %.
So why the hell am i going mad over all of this?? to drive a point home that: we donot have enough candidates from the rural areas( the people who actually deserve these reservations, and not the sc and st who are rich) to fill all of them college seats( all commerce medical or iit's) and our goverment rather than going effusive over increasing quotas every bloody where( to please vote banks), should start concentrating on primary education and post primary education!!!!!
Look the debate is endless, the way i see it, if u gotta stand up ,u gotta use and tighten ur leg muscles first before rest of the body, implied that for our nation to be strong our basic education should increase, uplifted , with 29.2 percent i doubt that seriously!!! and if we just let these guys go ahead with this reservation bill,we are not justifying the cause doctors have stood for so long. the guys who are heading the revolt are the guys who are already doing their post graduation, ineffect they actually should be caring a damn , but they started the fight for their juniors, for us, for ur kids and ur relatives. Yesterday they burnt their termination orders(picture on www.shanks-quotas.blogspot.com) which ramadoss(or whatever the name ) sent them. u know that means that they have given their jobs and their pg seats a royal snubs to stand up for the cause.!!!
moreover the fire has spread wild and big! think about it, nearly all of the medical colleges are involved now, the protests are coordinated, dude its almost like a real time movie, its amazing and we wont let it die.
Make an effort in Japan people show support by tying black bands , if ur in corporate u can spread a word u can show support. there is a signature campaign on in aiims, u can go there and pledge .. (physical support matters)or u can visit the blog on blogspot it self: www.youthforequality.blogspot.com.
It would be puerile to say that we can do things on our own,no we cant. we need support and we need all of it. so this is our chance to stand up for a cause,
help in any way u can emails, blogs, pictures, contacts.
join the “chalo delhi march“ 20th of may at mamc gate at 8am,colleges from all over india are getting together!!,this time round lets make it happen and not take it lying down.
parting shot:
Blood boils, rage takes over my mind,
No reason no sense do these #uckers make to the existence of mine,
No logical decisions, No sense of direction, in an abyss this political system of mine,
Iam a common man, I was betrayed before, Iam being betrayed now, Ill be kick arsed every time,
but I choose to stand up, choose to fight, choose to write, Choose to ignite, hell, the choice is mine
